| Beatles Rock and Rolling Stones Music Essay

The beatles were musical group that rocked England, especially cities like Liverpool and Hamburg, during those days when it was rock critical era. It was the most famous rock group in the world during 1960s. Beatles was started by four gentlemen John Lennon, Ringo Starr, Paul McCartney and George Harrison in 1962 when they recorded their first song “Love me do.” Rolling Stones were a London music group that was formed in 1960s with six members and each had a crucial role to play in their music production. Those who stated it was Charlie Watts, the drumist, Mick Jagger, the vocalist, Keith Richards dealt with the guitar, Bill Wyman was to deal with the bass and Brian Jones played the guitar and harmonica. Although most of those members have left that band and present members are Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Charlie Watts and Ronnie Wood. Rolling stones do not only play rock music but other genres also; blues, blues-rock, hard rock. By 2008 Rolling Stones were number ten on the billboard top all-time artists and they were number two in billboarding hot 100.

Beatles music was violent and furious thus made the crowd develop screams which lead to mass hysteria. Beatles broke up in 1970 having fulfilled what the band referred to as a full potential a band requires. Together they recorded a last album which they called “Abbey Road” in 1969. Each member started to build his own career: George Harrison decided to do recorded solo music up to 2001 when he was diagnosed with cancer and died while John Lennon, who was very successful, was tragically killed by a fan in 1980, Paul McCartney with his wife found a band called Wings. The first album of Rolling Stones was composed by Richards and Jagger in late 1966. For their long history Rolling Stones has created 30 compilation albums, 17 live albums, 29 studio albums and 107 singles.

By the year 1966 live performance by the Beatles became very tiresome, especially due to massive attendance that produced screams hence drowning their voices and the instrumentals, which forced them in the final stage concert in San Francisco (1966) to use music from the studio recordings and stop playing live music.

In June 1966 Jagger of Rolling Stones produced the single “Mothers Little Helper” which was the first pop song to promote drug use in the U.S. He used London accent which was very natural to him. Jagger was charged with drug use several times but was not arrested until 1967 when Brian Jones’ house was checked by police and he was detained and accused of possession of bhang. Rolling stones have found their success in the modern music having recorded many albums especially in 2012 and also played their first 50th anniversary concert at London’s O2 arena on 25 November 2012.

Speaking about Rolling Stones disco biography it should be mentioned that they have recorded more than 100 singles and studio albums and lots of compilations together with live albums. Namely: “The Rolling Stones” (16 April 1964, UK), “The Rolling Stones no.2” (15 January 1965), “The Rolling Stones, Now” (13 February 1965, US), “Out of Our Heads” (30 July 1965, UK, US), “December’s Children” (4 December 1965, US), “Aftermath” (20 June 1966, US, UK), “Between the Buttons” (20 January 1967, UK, US), “Their Satanic Majesties Request” (8 December 1967), “Beggars Banquet” (6 December 1968), “Let it Bleed” (5 December 1969), “Sticky Fingers” (23 April 1971), “Exile on Main St.” (12 may 1972), “Goats Head Soup” (31 august 1973), “It’s Only Rock n Roll” (18 October 1974), “Black and Blue” (23 April 1976), “Some Girls” (9 June 1978), “Emotional Rescue” (20 June 1980), “Tattoo You” (24 August 1981), “Undercover” (7 November 1983), “Dirty Work” (24 march1986), “Steel Wheels” (29 august 1986), “Voodoo Lounge” (11 September 1994), “Bridges to Babylon” (29 September 1997), “A Biggerbang” (5 September 2005).

This group also has live albums; the first one was “Got Live if You Want It!” (US only, released in 10 December 1966) while their most recent one was “Live at Leeds” which was released in 13 November 2012 in a digital download format.

Speaking about the Beatles discography it is important to say that they performed and recorded music only from 1963 till 1970 having done different music styles; such as merseybeat, contemporary pop/rock, rock-n-roll, britsih invasion, british psychedelic and am rock. They recorded such album as: “Please Please Me” (1963), “With the Beatles” (1963), “Introducing…the Beatles” (1964), “Meet the Beatles” (1964), “The Beatles Second Album (1964), “A Hard Day’s Night” (1964), “Something New” (1964), “Beatles for Sale” (1964), “Beatles `65” (1964), “Beatles VI” (1965), “Help!” (1965), “Rubber Soul” (1965), “Revolver” (1966), “Sgt.Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band” (1967), “Magical Mystery Tour” (1967), “The Beatles (white album)” (1968), “Yellow submarine” (1969), “Abbey Road” (1969), “Let it Be” (1970).

While recording their albums they took rock and pop genres and chose the best of the known elements which they introduced as their own creation; they had the wild vocals, and made an accent on guitar orientation thus dispersed the postwar austerity which Beatles claimed to be a culture of its own. Its only Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr who are still alive, but they work separately. As for Rolling Stones, those who are still in the band include; Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Charlie and Ronnie Wood. Rolling Stones found its way in modern music and they are still rocking the world with their hysteric songs. It looks like the group doesn’t want to end the career soon since they pass the baton to the next incoming members unlike the Beatles, who split up after 7 years in the music industry.
