In the short-term, unmanaged stress management can lead to fatigue, sleep disorders, eating disorders, and other unhealthy symptoms. Long-term unmanaged stress management can lead to major health problems such as heart disease, high blood pressure, stroke and migraine headaches. An individual may not be able to eliminate all stress from their life, but there are steps one can take to reduce stress.
Many strategies have been developed to help people manage and cope with stress. There is no single right way of coping with a stressful situation. Each person must figure out what works best for them. We can use various strategies such as, keeping oneself busy to take their mind off the issue, let off steam to other people, pray for guidance and strength, ignore the problem, distract oneself and prepare oneself to expect the worse. It is found that emotion-focused coping strategies are often less effective than using problem-focused coping.
