Students as stakeholders in their educational process sample essay
1. How are students involved in the educational management process? Generally, students participate and are considered contributor to the overall set-up of the education management process usually as the “content consumers,” i. e. , as those who are targeted by the educators and personnel who plan and implement curricula or materials that had been developed by their teachers or even by what are called as instructional designers (Knowles, 1984).
Students absorb these materials, assimilate them and try to make applications as much as possible in ways such as putting their own personal experiences and problem solving abilities to the test (Tapscott & Williams, 2006). 2. What are the benefits and drawbacks of student empowerment as a leadership philosophy in schools or training organizations? Benefits in this kind of set-up include the increase of engagement, improvement of learning, and may result to a more lasting value on the learned product or material (National Survey of Student Engagement, 2006).
Drawbacks or disadvantages may include the inability by some students to see through their projects or goals due to lack of resources, financial constraints and even lack of perseveration (Boettcher, 2006). 3. How does this impact stakeholder relationship in an educational environment? Of course, firstly, it limits the efficacy or effectiveness of the strategy to some and not all students or target population (Theroux, 2004). The limitations usually become excuse for many educational leaders to marginalize this concept or strategy and altogether at times, may put the idea to the sidelines.
What limitations there are may not necessarily mean that the strategy should not be pursued at all considering that the fact remains that not all people are the same and that the strategies must be comprehensively studied for the particular audience these are supposed to gear for.
