The CSR in China sample essay

CSR, the abbreviation of corporate social responsibility, which now is becoming one of the basic scales of measuring the operation of corporations is up to standard or not. It first came into common use was in 1960s. In 1999, Kofi Annan came up with the Globe Compactprogram, and officially launched in 2000. The UNGC program called corporations abides by in the human rights, labor, and environment and etc. at all nine basic rules. This compact made corporations became partners with UN, ILO, and some NGOs, and built a more wide and harmonious market. The destination of the compact is arousing the whole world corporations join the activities that decrease the negative side of globalization, and increase more positive influences.

In China, CSR becomes universal now. While the development of globalization, CSR in China turned more voluntary and non-profitable. You may never hear about Wenchuan, a small town in Sichuan province in China, had suffered the worst earthquake in 2008. At that time, many Chinese and foreign corporations extended their hands. According to incomplete statistics, more than 120 corporations donated amounted to 325.2million RMB, 2.1million Hongkong dollar. The whole price of donation of money and meritorious is more than 400 million RMB.

Although CSR is getting mature now, there are still some corporations which just look at their own profit and ignore publics. Still in China, the safety of food is a very serious problem. Some famous big company produced poisoned milk and gutter oil to consumers just to make profit.

In June, 2008, the first baby patient with kidney stone had been found in Lanzhou city. The parents sad that the baby only drunk Sanlu’s milk powder since her born. The department of public health soon started research. In September, the government department found the Sanlu Milk Company had added melamine which is poisoned to people in the milk. It became the biggest scandal in the year. Our government valued this news and handled it seriously. In December, the Sanlu company announced bankrupted, and the primary responsibility of the person had received legal sanction.

This would be an alert to some lawless corporations, something goes around and goes around, do not break the law. While China becoming much more international, the government supervision of market has turned to an important role. The bigger the market is, the more flaws the market has. Current corporations have more self-control ability on CSR than before, but it doesn’t means they would not slip through the law’s fingers, so that’s why we still need government’s supervision. After all, CSR would be the one of the most important step to process the world society.
