The Future of the Internet sample essay

It was during the 1960s wherein inventors thought that computers had greater potential than it offered at that time. The idea is to share the different types of information one may need from one computer to the next one without the hassle of transferring or retranslating files. However, this possibility was not immediately offered to the citizens of the country. Instead, the birth of the idea was to be used for different military and scientific fields. According to Walt Howe, the person who first proposed a global connection of different computers was J. C. R. Licklider.

He was a member of MIT then before transferring to the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency to be the leader in developing the technology. The basis of the Internet connections was also a man from MIT. His name is Leonard Kleinrock. When Massachusetts computers and California computers were connected through this technology with the help of Lawrence Roberts of MIT, it was discovered that a wider range can still be done. It was then called as the Arpanet. It came online in the year 1969 under the Advanced Research Projects Agency. It connected four computers in major universities at the southwestern US.

The list includes UCLA, UCSB, Stanford Research Institute and the University of Utah. In the following years, more computers from different universities and schools were also added to the network expanding its scope to the capacity of one computer to the almost impossible machine today. The technology matured during the 1970s. With more universities and organization connected to the technology, it there was a form of library cataloging involved. This is to help track the data that circulates in the network. With this, the first technology that strongly resembles the face of internet today was on the year 1991.

The University of Minnesota was the location wherein the technology was developed. Internet Today From those early beginnings of the technology, the Internet today has allowed every individual free access to practically most information available online. More importantly, the technology does not only set information from distinguished schools and organizations. Information can today come from a normal person. A student, a single mother, an office personnel can not only view information but also upload information. Pictures, stories and seemingly nonsensical ideas can be shared through online communities and personal websites.

These can be viewed by anyone who would be searching for similar ideas. The age of information technology gives much emphasis on the power of knowledge. If one lacks hold on information, he or she could be left behind. It helps people to remain updated in world issues and even a passing tale from family and friends. There are free web hosting where one can simply create his or her own website to disseminate information from his or her perspective. There are also only communities wherein social circles and strong relationships are built. Many have found their partners through this technology.

Many have found stable businesses as well. On the other hand, along with the power of knowledge, there are also ethical concerns regarding easy capture and dissemination of information. The primary concern is that privacy is no longer always respected. Most of the time, since the Internet and computer technology allowed much convenience to almost anything, the private life of one person could be the point of show business for others. There is much to know and much to find out. But it is there should still be something left for personal purposes.

More often than not, even if the private lives of these individuals were not meant to be crossed, it might still be necessary to have a look over by server owners to look over for surveillance and security purposes. Internet Tomorrow According to Online Articles According to Amy Grahan (2003), the world today sees a library online that is equivalent to half a million libraries of print collections. Today, conventional means of sharing information are usually through phone conversations, forecasts, and TV commercials. But according to her article, what one considers as junk today might turn out to be gold in the years to come.

Along with her text, she included the following possibilities as well. She noted that in the decades or centuries to come, there could be a new breed of scientists who are devoted to studying old websites, forums, emails, and all sorts of data. They will search through all these for study. There mountains of information produced today will become relics tomorrow as the technology continues to advance its many features. There could a new breed or sub-discipline of sociology, anthropology and archaeology. They will have their own journals, museums and institutions regarding the date designed and created today.

On the other hand, according to Internet Society (2003), much has changed in the last couple of decades with regards to the evolution of computer and internet technology. They suspected that not very long, there will be internet phone and internet television. However, the issue in question is not how far the technology can improve itself, but how man will cope with its movement. Along with the evolution of technology, man will be required to evolve as well to be able to handle all the information and maneuvers that comes along with it. Moreover, economic and political values are also involved.

Internet seems to be a mere cultural and social interconnection of individuals across the globe. But there are also advertisements and transactions not revealed through the internet that occurs for further improvements. It is more than what one sees. It can become a bigger point of business. According to Family and Friends When one asks “common people”, he or she may find it truly amazing how an array of answers can be true one day. One of the individuals asked for the purpose of this paper mentioned that the internet technology may one day do the shopping for her. She will simply list the items picked from a catalog and upload it.

It will simply arrive at her doorstep. Another friend shared that pornography will become 3D. Although this was a funny assumption, one cannot say that it is not possible. A cunning mind may come up to the challenge and prove him otherwise. There were also those who mentioned it could be that all commands can be voice activated. Search engines will simply follow the vocal instructions of the user. Internet search may also be one day no longer be a reliable source. Since anyone from any country and any status may upload different information online, the similarities and differences between these pieces of information may be very important.

This includes facts with discrepancies between two different sources. With this evidence, it would one day be difficult to find real facts. On the other hand, with the rise of unreliable information, charging databases and online libraries might request higher pay from their clients as they have a greater need to protect the information they hold. Plagiarism will be harder to distinguish, and anyone involved can be called guilty even if they were innocent in the first place. Simply saying, there are too many versions to produce an original.

When family members were also asked, they mentioned that a computer with internet capabilities may one day be a life-size machine that will simply walk with man wherever he or she goes, and do research on the spot if they forget certain details. With an array of information sources, on can be confirmed or confused. According to Personal Speculations Based on previous experiences, the future of internet search is quite unclear. This assumption is not due to how dark or gloomy the internet may bring one person. Instead, since today can offer tomorrow a very wide array of possibilities, its future can go to different directions.

It can be wider in scope, but it could be very successful. Internet search can offer a student data for his thesis. It can offer the assertive a form of business. It can give mothers quick home cooking recipes. Tomorrow, internet search can be taken to the next level that it can find a person—including all information that may form his or her identity. It can be that powerful. Internet search can also be used for the simplest or most complex of search. The technology will solve all the problems. It will just gather and produce as one sits watching TV to wait for the output.

Online streaming today is just a choppy and grainy image. But in the future, it may appear as flesh before our very eyes. One the other hand, based on how it is also used for political, economic and military purposes, there are speculations that petty fights online is just the beginning. It might as well instigate another world war. Since the internet can also trigger bombs and all sorts of fire arms from another location, it would only take a simple press on a key to eliminate a whole nation. Less effort results in greater tragedy. The internet today already seems magical to those who only know its basic purpose.

But those who appear to be masters of it today might not be able to cope with the changing and improving times. This kind of technology will hone the next generations to a new breed of young experts who will not require a keyboard or a mouse. Voice activation and command sequence will be lead by one’s body. It is the password and access to all that would be required of their time. Conclusion In the end, who really knows of the future of the internet? As it offers a wide array of possibilities to everyone across the globe, it takes man to the next generation. It takes him to a place where a click can be a simple voice command.

It offers opportunities as well as threats. It might continue to be a battle for what is right and wrong with regards to the justice and human rights. It will continue to exist until its very creation destroys its very creators. From simple desires to exchange information between organizations and universities, the ripples from this core expanded to a reality human beings have adapted to live with. Internet access appears to be a necessity for individuals and businesses alike. In the future, it will not only be required, it will replace a dog for the position of man’s best friend.

As mentioned earlier, it could also be a trigger to the next war. A simply exchange of ideas may lead to misinterpretations and misconceptions between cultures. Ethics will have to remain active in pointing which sides should be right or wrong. War, by then, might be a small effect as well as it may lead to the total destruction of humanity and the world. Human beings might think that they are always on top of everything else. But if the creations surpass any human power, then what can the mind do if the body can only exert so much? The wonders that the internet can offer today is only a taste of what it can be developed to do in the future. The details of what it can offer and do in the future can be left to one’s imagination. At least, for now.
